There's a reason why visual aids are used so much in everyday life with children. Pictures make it easier to understand, find, and remember – long before children can read text themselves.
At home, it can be as simple as labeling toy boxes with clear labels or symbols. This makes it easier for children to find what they're looking for – and to put things back when playtime is over. Which, in turn, makes it easier to keep things tidy in a way that actually lasts.
Visual aids for toys need to match reality
What I quickly noticed when I was looking for symbols for toy storage was that many visual aids are very general. They rarely reflect the actual toy collection found in family homes today.
For a child who loves vehicles, a single symbol for "car" isn't enough. There's a big difference between a fire truck, a police car, a regular truck, and a cement mixer – and for some children, that can be a big deal.

The same goes for building toys. Many families have LEGO, Magna-tiles, and Plus Plus – and it’s discouraging to tidy up if the toy box only has a sign with some generic blocks.
As the doll collection grows, you might need one box for doll clothes and another for doll accessories. If it's Barbie or Rainbow High, the sign should ideally show the correct type of doll instead of something generic.
It's when the system is too crude to match reality that things get messy – and the child stops caring about where things belong.
That's why I designed my own symbols
That's exactly what I wanted to solve when I started designing symbols for toy storage. Visual aids that actually reflect what children's toys look like at home today – not just standard pictures of "doll," "car," and "blocks."
Here at kulform.se, you'll find symbols for everything from Duplo and train sets to Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig. If you have craft-loving children, you'll also find symbols to label each box in the craft room instead of settling for a generic "craft box."
The idea is to make it easier for children to find things on their own, sort, and put away – so that the playroom can actually look the way you want it to, even after they've played.
Small pictures can make a big difference
The beauty of visual aids is that they don't have to be complicated. Sometimes, a few clear symbols on the right boxes are enough to make everyday life flow a little better – and for the child to feel capable of keeping things tidy themselves.
