Getting started with your Posca marker

A brand new Posca marker can seem completely useless at first. Here's how to prime it:

  1. Keep the cap on and shake the marker firmly a few times - you'll hear something moving inside when you're doing it right.
  2. Remove the cap and press the tip firmly against a piece of paper until it clicks in completely. Release.
  3. Repeat and pump the tip to push ink through until the nib is filled. It may feel like you're pumping more times than necessary - but that's exactly how it's supposed to work!
  4. When you see ink on the paper, your marker is ready to use!

Keep this in mind

  • Always shake the marker a few times before use to mix the ink properly.
  • Store your Posca marker horizontally or with the tip facing down - always with the cap on!
  • If the marker hasn't been used for a while, you may need to repeat the steps above to "restart" it.

Works on almost anything

One of the Posca marker's greatest strengths is that it works on almost any surface - paper, glass, metal, stone, wood, fabric and plastic. It can also be used on wall planners, memo boards and labels from Kulform, letting you write and wipe with a slightly damp paper towel or similar. Keep in mind that Posca ink can be difficult to remove from porous surfaces and may be hard to wipe off smooth surfaces if left for a long time. For wall planners and wall stickers with a chalkboard surface, chalk markers are a better choice - even though Posca works on those too!

Time for a new one

As much as we'd love a marker that lasts forever, they don't. How long it lasts depends on how much you use it - but when it runs out, you're always welcome to order a replacement! At kulform.se, shipping is free even if you're just buying one small marker.
