How exciting - you're about to put up your new wall sticker from Kulform! Large designs with continuous surfaces require a little more preparation than smaller decals - but the result is absolutely worth it. A tip from us: make sure the kids are busy with something else and give yourself a little peace and quiet. It makes all the difference!
Important before you start
The surface must be completely smooth, clean and dry. If the wall has been freshly painted, wait 2-4 weeks. Avoid delicate wallpaper or uneven surfaces.
What you need
- A plastic scraper or credit card
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Masking tape or painter's tape
- Spirit level
Your wall sticker comes in three layers
- Backing paper (the back - removed during application)
- The wall sticker itself (the design that stays on the wall)
- Transfer tape (the front - holds the design together and helps you position it correctly)
Step 1: Prepare the design
Firmly rub the scraper or credit card over the front of the wall sticker, over the transfer tape. This is especially important with large designs to make sure all parts bond properly before you remove the backing paper.
Step 2: Choose your position
Measure and lightly mark where the wall sticker should go. Use a spirit level to make sure it's straight - it's much easier to adjust now than afterwards!
Step 3: Temporarily secure the wall sticker
Secure the wall sticker against the wall with masking tape along the top edge. Adjust the position until you're happy with it.
Step 4: Remove the backing paper
Bend the backing paper away from the transfer tape and design, and slowly peel it away. The design should now stay on the transfer tape. If any part sticks to the backing paper, lay it back down and rub the front a little more.
Step 5: Apply the wall sticker
Starting from the top edge, press the design firmly onto the wall working from top to bottom. Use the scraper in long, even strokes working outward from the center - this reduces the risk of air bubbles under the larger surfaces.
Step 6: Go over it one more time
Smooth over the entire design once more with the scraper. Pay extra attention to the edges and any details or text.
Step 7: Remove the transfer tape
Fold the transfer tape back on itself along the surface and slowly and carefully peel it away - don't lift it straight out. If any part lifts with it, lay it back down and rub a little more before trying again.
Done!
Air bubbles? No worries! Gently pierce the bubble with a thin needle and press the air out toward the hole with a finger or the scraper. The tiny hole won't be visible and the bubble will disappear.
Can I reposition the wall sticker?
Wall stickers are made for permanent application. They can be removed carefully without damaging the surface, but they often lose their shape and adhesion in the process.
